Wave Lumina Awarded Competitive Grant from U.S. NSF

U.S. National Science Foundation seal

Wave Lumina has been awarded a competitive Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) to advance its field-ready technology for rapid, on-site screening of PFAS “forever chemicals” in water.

The NSF SBIR program backs early-stage, high-impact deep technology with strong commercial and societal potential. The award supports Wave Lumina’s continued development and field validation of its sensor — which pairs in-field liquid-liquid extraction with surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) to return a quantitative PFAS measurement in minutes, right at the sample point, instead of the weeks required by conventional laboratory testing.

This recognition reflects the urgency of the PFAS challenge and the need for faster, more affordable tools to find contamination in the field — so environmental professionals can sample smarter and move remediation forward sooner.
